Physiology
Behaviour Bible : Chapter 1 : Verse 5
Understanding dog behaviour without understanding what literally makes a dog and how they work is like trying to be a mechanic without understanding the engine of a car. We are not vets but that is no excuse not to understand the inner workings of the animals we seek to help.
Essentially by now you should understand the vital role of domestication in changing the dogs physiology, the genetic underpinning which creates each dog differently, the role of the environment in developing the dog as well as the biology and mechanics of the central nervous system. Those things form this walking, barking, eating and thinking being and understanding how a dog logistically does anything at all will have an overarching impact on how you work with the beings in front of you.
The deep dive in this course looks into neutering and you will leave the course able to more confidently assess when neutering will help and when it might hinder a behaviour problem. We take a look at the implications chemical castration has on behaviour along with how the age of neutering may affect behaviour.
On top of that, as ever, is a dramatic case study to ensure you are learning how to apply the knowledge to real life. We track the journey of Turbo the puppy who entered the rescue almost unable to stand as we take her through X-rays, MRI scans and lumbar punctures to find out how the vets work out what is wrong with her.
The outline of this course includes and exploration into the following systems:
- Integument system
- Muscular system
- Skeletal system
- Senses organs
- Cardiovascular system
- Respiratory system
- Digestive system
- Reproductive system
- Endrocrine system
- Nervous system
- A deep dive into neuturing
- A detailed medical case study
Your Instructor
Nando and Dean make up the team that run The School of Canine Science, an education provider that teaches, trains and mentors dog trainers to reach their potential in a competitive industry.
All of our courses, either in person or online are firmly rooted in science and evidence with strong practical hand on elements.
Nando : has been working as a dog trainer and instructor for 14 years. Best known for his accessible style, impressive YouTube tutorials, big personality and awe-inspiring ability to train the tricky dogs that many people claim are un-trainable. Nando has appeared on multiple mainstream TV shows, presented around the world, authored books, hosted his own international radio show, receivied more than 20 million views on YouTube and has a Facebook following of over 26,000. Nando loves all areas of dog training but his true passion lies in scent detection.
Dean : is a dog trainer with less than three years formal experience yet in that time he has managed to propel himself into the forefront of the industry with his intense theoretical knowledge and an masterful eye for precision. After completing a Masters Degree in Business and working for 16 years in the Technology Industry Dean is obsessed with systems, processes and measurement – leading to an eye for detail and an aptitude for clean, efficient training. Dean has worked behind the scenes on TV shows animal training but is probably best known for tricks & tutorials with his dog Sidney.
